Description

Replacement mowing disc for SILENO life and SILENO+

The SILENO series has been running in German gardens for many years – and is maintained instead of replaced. If you’re looking for spare parts, you want to keep using the device, not buy a new one. This disc fits SILENO life 750, 1000, 1250 and SILENO+ 1250, 1600 and comes with pre-assembled stainless steel blades.

Mowing disc for GARDENA SILENO life in the lawn
Replacement part for a long-lasting series

Why swapping it on the SILENO is worth it

Gardena built the SILENO models to be robust. The drive and electronics can handle many seasons—what wears out first are the cutting disc and the disc it sits on.

That’s why so many replacement parts are searched for around these devices. A robot that works perfectly well except for a dull mowing deck is back to full performance with a new disc.

Our version replaces the original disc directly: just put it on, tighten it, done. No adapter, no adjustment, no tools beyond a screwdriver.

Compatible SILENO models

SILENO life 750
SILENO life 1000
SILENO life 1250
SILENO+ 1250
SILENO+ 1600
Not suitable for: the SILENO minimo series. The compact minimo models have a smaller mowing deck – for this, we offer a dedicated disc for SILENO minimo 250, 400 and 500. For other SILENO variants, we’re happy to check compatibility based on the model name.

Questions about the SILENO mowing disc

With Gardena, the most common questions focus on two topics: distinguishing between the product lines and the cutting pattern at the edges.

SILENO life or minimo – which disc do I need?

The name on the housing decides. If it says life or a plus sign, this disc is the right one. If it says minimo, you need the smaller version.

The number doesn’t help much: A SILENO life 1250 and a SILENO+ 1250 use the same number and actually use the same mowing disc – a minimo 500, however, does not, even though the number is smaller.

If you’re unsure, you can find the full model name on the sticker under the hood or in your Gardena account under the registered devices.

Why is “mowing disc tuning” so often searched for around Gardena?

Because many users are unhappy with the edge result. In forums and on platforms for 3D printing templates, instructions circulate that are intended to change the mowing area—sometimes using custom-printed attachments.

We advise against such modifications, and not for self-interested reasons: a disc with altered geometry runs differently, and plastic from a home printer rarely holds up to the load at mowing speed for long. What breaks off flies away at full speed.

The effective leverage is different: sharp blades and a denser blade setup. Seven or nine cutting edges capture every blade of grass more often—exactly what the tuning attempts are supposed to achieve in the first place.

How often do I need to replace the blades on the SILENO?

Gardena intentionally includes multiple sets of blades with the devices—an indication that the manufacturer considers them a wear part to be replaced regularly.

A fixed schedule still helps little. A more reliable indicator is the cutting edge: frayed tips of the grass blades and a dull, muted color two days after mowing are the signal.

The disc lasts significantly longer. It only becomes an issue when, after an impact, it starts running out of true or the blade mounting is worn out.

Replacement on the SILENO

  1. Switch off the robot using the main switch and remove it from the charging station.
  2. Put on gloves and lay the device on its side.
  3. Remove accumulated grass felt—on older devices it is often dried and stuck in place.
  4. Loosen the old mowing disc, fit the new one, and tighten it evenly.
  5. Tap each blade: It must be able to rotate freely around its screw.

For devices that have a few years under their belt, it’s worth replacing the screws as well instead of reusing them. Worn-out heads make the next change unnecessarily difficult.

6, 7 or 9 blades on the SILENO

This is where the real lever for a better cutting pattern lies. More cutting blades mean more cuts on the same trip—exactly the improvement that many SILENO owners are looking for.

6 blades – factory configuration with center guard

The version that matches the original. The SILENO continues to work as usual, just again with sharp cutting edges.

As the only option, it includes a guard over the middle of the mowing disc—it is missing with 7 and 9 blades. With the SILENO models, that pays off because they often run in the same garden for years and, in the process, inevitably mow even in damp weather: Without the guard, the sticky clippings collect season after season at the blade attachment point.

For anyone who wants to keep using their device with as little maintenance as possible, this is the obvious choice.

6 blades – with closed center
Mowing disc with 7 blades for GARDENA SILENO
7 blades – visibly finer

7 blades – the noticeable difference

One more cutting edge, and the cut pattern becomes more even. For many SILENO owners, this is the answer to the dissatisfaction that otherwise leads to conversion attempts—no tinkering, no risk.

Especially useful when the lawn is kept short and the robot drives at short intervals.

Without center protection: In dry weather, it makes no difference; in damp conditions, the 6-blade version is easier to maintain.

9 blades – for a well-groomed ornamental lawn

The densest blade arrangement delivers the finest look when the SILENO runs every day and only trims the tips. Individual blades that remain standing—noticeable with six cuts—disappear here.

For longer mowing pauses and stronger growth, six or seven blades are more robust—the same work is otherwise spread across too many narrow edges.

Also without middle protection—during daily operation on short grass, hardly relevant.

How you can tell the timing

The lawn looks uneven despite regular mowing
Blade tips are torn, not cleanly separated
The SILENO sounds rougher while mowing than before
The blade mounting on the old disc has play

Buy blades individually as replacements

Gardena includes multiple sets of blades with the devices—having a supply is part of this series. The 60 cm replacement blades set including screws lasts for many seasons and makes the switch a routine instead of an ordering process.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cutting disc fit SILENO life and SILENO+?

Yes, for both series and all surface variants. GARDENA uses the same mowing disc mount for life and SILENO+.

Does the mowing disc from SILENO life also fit the SILENO minimo?

No. The minimo has a smaller mowing disc with its own mount. The discs are not interchangeable.

Why are only individual blades dull on my SILENO?

Wire-guided robots always travel along the boundary on the same line. If there is a stone or a root there, the same blade hits it during every pass. Check the wire path and move it slightly inward at the critical spot.

How often do I need to replace the cutting disc on the SILENO?

With average use, one set lasts a season to a season and a half. The condition of the lawn is what matters: frayed blade tips mean it is tearing rather than cutting.

Will the edge strip stay cleaner with a new disc?

Only to a limited extent. The strip along the wire is created by the robot’s turning point, not by dull blades. A new cutting disc improves the cutting appearance across the area, but you still need to trim the edge strip.

What is the difference between 6, 7, and 9 blades?

The motor power remains the same. More blades produce more cuts per revolution and therefore a finer result. With regularly mowing SILENO, the higher density is more beneficial than with robots used only occasionally.

Are the blades already installed?

Yes. The mowing disc comes ready to install with blades attached. For mounting on the robot, use the existing screw.

  7. Tighten the screws securely without over-tightening them.
  8. Check each blade for a secure fit and free movement.

7. Check after installation

  • Are all screws fully inserted and securely fastened?
  • Is the cutting disc straight and firmly seated?
  • Can the blades move freely, if intended?
  • Have no tools or foreign objects been left in the area of the cutting disc?
  • Does the cutting disc run freely and without grinding?

8. Operation and Maintenance

  • Check the blades, screws, and cutting disc regularly for wear.
  • Replace damaged or heavily worn parts immediately.
  • Clean the cutting disc regularly of grass clippings and dirt.
  • Do not use the lawn mower robot if unusual noises, vibrations, or running problems occur.
  • Use only compatible replacement parts and suitable mounting materials.

Note on Blade Replacement

Always replace blades in good time. Dull or damaged blades can worsen the cutting pattern,
place a greater load on the lawn mower robot, and impair safety.
